The band formed in the middle of a cold November in 2009. Within a matter of weeks they had the bones of a playable live set of all original material. They made their live debut in March 2010 in their home city of Coventry. From then on they performed regularly in venues across the Midlands and further afield.
In March 2011, after struggling with changes in direction, the group decided to go their separate ways. The split was amicable and the members remained friends. In the months that followed, the members pursued other musical avenues. Original bassist Dan Brennan focused on his work with Scattering Ashes; vocalist Craig Faulkner spent time on some solo and collaborative works, while guitarist Lee Doughty and drummer John Campbell teamed up to work on a new project with My Eyes Darken bassist Lee New.
In August 2011, John, Lee (Doughty) and Lee (New) invited Craig to jam with them again. This followed a brief one off 'reunion' performance for Craig's 30th in June of that year. From here, the band decided to explore the possibility of reforming as From Embers Rise. After bringing Lee (New) up to speed with the handful of older songs they decided to keep, the band immediately started working on new material. The new line-up took to the stage for the first time in Nuneaton September 2011.
